Students take a trip to RTÉ Studios!

3rd class students from St Aidan’s Senior National School in Brookfield, Tallaght took a very exciting trip to RTÉ Studios last Friday for a special Christmas performance by the National Symphony Orchestra which was broadcast on Lyric FM. The performance, conducted by Christopher Bell, took place in RTÉ Radio Centre Studio One and was aired live that evening on the Classic Drive Live show with Liz Nolan.

The young musicians from St Aidan’s are all taking part in Music Generation South Dublin’s Ready Steady Play programme, through which they receive weekly violin lessons. As part of the programme, Music Generation South Dublin also purchases a set of violins for the school so that each student has an opportunity to learn on a quality instrument.

On the evening the Orchestra played Christmas classics such as 'Silent Night', sang by baritone Christopher Cull, and treated the audience to popular favourites including the Star Wars Theme by John Williams. The students had a wonderful time listening to the sound of a real orchestra and enjoying the experience of seeing conductor Christopher Bell working with the musicians during the performance.

“Ready Steady Play” is part of the “Ready Steady Music” programme delivered by Music Generation South Dublin and provides access to in-class instrumental tuition for primary school pupils. A sister programme, “Ready Steady Sing”, which delivers in-class choral and singing tuition is also available.
